Kolam artist Meena Ramasamy

The Artist

Meena Ramasamy

I'm Meena Ramasamy, an artist, entrepreneur, and the founder of Kolam with Meenal. I hold a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) degree and a Diploma in Fine Arts, and I am a Fevicryl Certified Advanced Artist. Originally from Chettinad (Karaikudi), I am now based in Chennai.

My artistic journey took a new direction during the COVID-19 pandemic when I started my YouTube channel to share my passion for traditional kolam art. In 2020, I introduced hand-painted Kolam Clay Diyas, offering customers the flexibility to customize colours and designs. The overwhelming response inspired me to expand my creations into clay and wooden pooja décor, and today Kolam with Meenal offers more than 100 unique kolam-inspired products, each handcrafted with care and rooted in tradition.

Every piece I create reflects my love for preserving our cultural heritage while presenting it in a contemporary and elegant way. What began as a creative passion has grown into a meaningful journey of connecting with thousands of art lovers, customers, and learners across the world.

Over the years, I have been privileged to receive several recognitions for my work. I have won multiple Kolam competitions, received the YouTube Silver Play Button, been honoured with the Kola Mangai Award by the Nagarathar community, and authored the book Nagarathar Nadu Veetu Kolam, which documents the traditional Nadu Veetu Kolam designs of Chettinad.

My mission is to preserve, promote, and pass on the timeless beauty of kolam art to future generations through creativity, education, and handcrafted products.
